Win The Fight

WTF 2020-2021

As a result of the Lockdown in March 2020, 87,000 cases of gender-based violence and interpersonal violence were reported, a significant increase from pre-COVID-19. There were several factors contributing to the increase in GBVF cases in South Africa, including the availability and consumption of alcohol, job losses, financial dependence, psychological distress, and emotional imbalances during the lockdown. As a result of their limited mobility, women and children were more exposed to the aggressors at home, where varying hostile power dynamics prevail, making it difficult for them to find any type of support and aid.

Campaign Execution

In our research the key intervention strategies in combating GBVF and ensuring that victims are adequately supported include dialogues and interventions around high-level communication and behavior change programmes, prioritizing reported cases, and developing interventions tailored to respond to economically vulnerable situations that women and children face. To tell the stories of ordinary South Africans and to use the arts to raise awareness as well as to deliver a campaign that encourages social cohesion, our goal was to tell real life stories of ordinary South Africans.
