A multisectoral legacy movement, Baqhawafazi uses social media, art, and storytelling to challenge collective belief systems and to shift behaviour around Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
Over the past few years, Baqhawafazi has been producing, shooting, and distributing original out-of-home advertising material in the following areas: Mitchell’s Plain, Umlazi, Dobsonville, Diepsloot, Ikageng Mamelodi East, Tembisa, Diepsloot, and Mamelodi West.
In terms of physical presence, the campaign has been present at thirty (30) GBVF hotspots located in Delft, Dobsonville, Mamelodi Umhlobo Wenene East, Mitchells Plain, Umlazi, Thembisa, and Orange Farm.
By creating and distributing relevant content about the GBVF, Baqhawafazi was able to increase the volume of conversation regarding it, which resulted in an increase in conversations about the issue. Throughout the internet, Baqhawafazi continues to grow organically and steadily through multiple social media platforms and channels. As of January 1, 2022, Baqhawafazi has reached 5.4 million potential listeners.
As part of the radio campaign, stations in the Nine Provinces were targeted to broadcast the message to LSMs 4-9 in February, March, and April 2022. The following stations were included in the radio campaign: Radio 702, Metro FM, and Ukhozi FM.
As a result of the success of the radio campaign, Baqhawafazi has extended the campaign to other languages and culture-oriented radio stations, namely Thobela FM and RSG Radio.
